We landed in the Everglades at Pine Key Campground for the New Year. Our camp was about 7 miles inland from the NP gate. We thought we were at the campground on the end of the keys, 35 miles inland, but nope. Our camp was nice enough. During our 6 day stay we biked, kayaked and fished a bit. Alligators were everywhere. The picture on the top right with our kayak was of a crocodile near the coast. We camped at Big Cypress a few days before heading into the NP.
Top middle picture is of a canal that was teaming with wildlife. We rode down a path next to the canal and fished a bit but gators were active so we did not stay long. My favorite thing was kayaking on the keys and watching the birds. Several osprey, sea hawks, were busy building a nest nearby. It was cool.
